We offer STCW Basic Safety Training are approved to offer this additional course which is recognised by the Marshall Islands. Successful candidates will receive a “Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness” certificate which is valid for a period of five years.

STCW ELEMENTARY FIRST AID
One day First Aid and CPR which is instructed in compliance to STCW ’95 Code A-VI/1-3 and consists of approximately seven hours of theory and practical covering basic First Aid and CPR in marine situations. The course is followed by a written exam.

STCW BASIC FIRE PREVENTION & FIRE FIGHTING
Two day fire prevention and fire fighting module which is instructed in compliance to STCW 95 Code A – VI/1-2 including shipboard fire fighting organization, the elements of fire and explosion, types of ignition, fire and smoke detection, breathing apparatus use and automatic alarm system familiarization. Trainees will fight and extinguish actual fires using personal equipment, practical instruction taught by licensed and certified fire fighting professionals. It takes two days to complete and is followed by an exam.

STCW PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES
One and a half day Personal Survival course module, also known as Basic Sea Survival, which is instructed in compliance to STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-1 and consists of a day in the classroom covering subjects such as emergency situations, evacuation, survival craft and rescue boats, personal lifesaving appliances, survival at sea, emergency radio equipment and helicopter assistance. The theory part is followed by a written exam. The remainder of the course is spent in a swimming pool performing the simulation of abandon ship procedures. The practical exercises are subject to ongoing assessment by the instructor.

STCW PERSONAL SAFETY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a one day course which is instructed to STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-4 as revised by the 2010 Manila Amendment. The course covers working relationships on board, health and hygiene, drugs and alcohol, shipboard management structure and responsibilities, emergencies and safe working practices, with enhanced coverage of communications, control of fatigue, teamwork and marine environmental awareness issues. The course is followed by a written exam.

STCW PROFICIENCY IN MARITIME SECURITY AWARENESS
A half day module which is instructed in compliance with STCW Reg V1/6 and Part A of Section A-VI/6 paragraph 4 and consists of a half day in the classroom covering subjects such as maritime security key threats, recognition and awareness of threats, plans and procedures for combatting threats, drills, communications and reporting.

All yacht crew need to be aware of new requirements for STCW compliance.
“Maritime Security Awareness” training will be required for all crew entering into the professional yachting industry at all levels.

This module is required from January 1, 2014 as a part of the update to the STCW Code mandated by the 2010 Manila Amendments, by all personnel employed or engaged on-board ships to which the ISPS Code applies.

The 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW Code entered into force on January 1, 2012. Although some administrations may introduce new standards from this date, many may continue to apply existing standards for certification and training until the required compliance date.

Governments may continue to renew and revalidate under the existing convention until January 1, 2017. However, for new entrants commencing training after July 1, 2013, they MUST comply with new mandatory standards.

There are two exceptions to the above, which are:
• the new minimum hours of rest for seafarers come into force on 1st January 2012.
• mandatory security training is applicable from 1st January 2014.

STCW REFRESHER TRAINING
• Basic STCW’95 refresher training is now mandatory every five years.
• This is a 2 day course of practical training for Personal Survival Techniques and Basic Fire Fighting.
• To avoid retaking the entire “Personal Survival Techniques” module, students must complete a self-declaration form declaring they have performed the following duties during drills or simulated exercise situations within the last 5 years:
◦ Donning a lifejacket
◦ Boarding a survival craft from ship, while wearing a life jacket
◦ Taking initial actions on boarding a lifeboat to enhance chance of survival
◦ Streaming a lifeboat drogue or sea-anchor
◦ Operating survival craft equipment
◦ Operating location devices, including radio equipment

* Note that the vessels’ registered number and dates on board are also required on the declaration.

• The course is available from 1 August 2015 and can be taken with any IYT Partner School approved to teach STCW’95 Basic Safety Training.
• Please complete this training if your certificate has an expiration date after January 1, 2017 before attempting to revalidate an existing certificate.
